The Beijing International Orchestra (BIO) is located in the Sedan Chair House, a courtyard in the Dongcheng District of Beijing nearby the street ?Dongsi Beidajie?. The BIO was founded as a non-profit community by the German expatriate manager and amateur violinist Stephan Brandel.

The orchestra currently consists of 35 professional and amateur musicians from various countries such as Germany, France, Spain, Switzerland, Belgium, Canada, USA, Indonesia, China and plays under the artistic guidance by Leo Zou as conductor. The repertoire spans orchestra and chamber music from the Baroque, Classic, Romantic and Contemporary, film music, Chinese compositions as well as salon music, as it was played in the first half of the 20th century in the famous European salons.

Recent concerts:

-- Concert in the auditorium of the German Embassy School (March 22, 2009)

-- Celebration of the German National Day in the German Embassy (Oct 9, 2009)

-- German Ball in the Kempinski Hotel (Nov 14, 2009).

-- Spring Concert in the Beijing Junyue Concert Hall (20 March, 2010)
